Classic Car Sales - When It Comes To A Classic Car, Precisely What Should You Consider?
Most of the times I purchase a car, I try to keep everything pretty simple and to the point. I am a practical guy, and I usually have practical needs in a car. I look at a car buyers guide and think about what I want. How much room do I need? Which car can last the longest? Which is probably the most likely to keep it's value? Which one can get the best gas mileage? And then I make a decision.
When I went into vintage car sales, however, everything got a whole lot more complicated. I have by no means been much of a collector. I am too sensible in my thinking. It is hard for me to get my head around the thought that something can be worth more since it is old. With the majority of used cars, the opposite is true. Most used cars become considerably less valuable as they age, because used cars naturally become less reliable as they grow old.
My closest friend, however, is an antique car dealer in California. He has invariably loved old vintage cars, and also has been involved in the family business of buying and selling them from the time when he was very young. As he offered me a job in antique car sales, I could not refuse. I was down on my luck, and I required the money badly. I did not really think about the fact that I would need to learn a new way of thinking about value.
As hard as it can be to sell used cars in most cases, making a vintage car sale is that much harder. The thing is, to sell vintage cars, you need to understand the minds of enthusiasts. Collectors are much more tolerant than most consumers. They will wait, in some cases for years, to find the perfect vintage car sales to complete their collections. These people don't want you to sell the car, they want to know that you appreciate it like they do. They would already know what to look for. My job, as an antique car dealer, is to bond with them over how beautiful these old classics happen to be. The cars will sell themselves.
I spent a while to really understand this fact. For the fist couple of months, I made far fewer antique car sales than I wanted to. My friend was patient with me, however, and before long, I began thinking like a car collector. Afterwards, the sales started racking up. Soon I was doing so much business that I could not remember what was difficult about it in the first place. I've in fact started to collect classic cars myself!
