Why do seemingly precious rings like this one go for practically nothing on ebay?
What is the motivation for selling nice rings like this for almost nothing? I have been tempted to buy but like Dad always says, if it looks to good to be true, it probably is.

Platinum plate means there is only a thin layer of platinum, that has been electroplated on to the ring. Most of it is cheap metal, and it will not take long for the platinum to wear through.
Part of the answer to your question is supply and demand. There are more rings for sale than there are people interested in buying them, so some are ignored completely.
People are often willing to sell them cheaply, because they obtained them cheaply. Many people go to estate sales, and buy jewelry, clothing, etc as a lot for next to nothing and then list the individual items on eBay.
