VINTAGE ANTIQUE JEWELRY

Why are some noun names considered accpetable, but not others?

This is purely out of curiosity! I think names are fascinating things.

For instance – why are some names such as Ruby, Jade, Jasper, Rose, Lily, Jasmine, Daphne, Zinnia, Willow, Summer, June, and Autumn consdiered acceptable, but names like Amethyst, Sapphire, Diamond, Topaz, Shade, Thyme and Winter considered outrageous?

What have the first names done to achieve a “classic” or “traditional” classification when they really aren’t all that different from the latter?

Where I live, Willow and Autumn would also be considered outrageous!

I think the answer to that is... time. Plain and simple. People have to get used to new ideas and names, which change with every generation. You should hear my mum when she gets started on 'hippy' names that are actually not that unusual now.

It's the same for names like Harmony, Serenity, Trinity, Liberty and Destiny... one day they will be considered just as normal as Grace, Hope or Faith.
