Within the framework of design, what is the difference between the terms "modern" and "contemporary"?
I think that "modern" refers specifically to the Mid Century Modernist Movement (eminating from the Bauhaus school), and "contemporary" refers to the current ideas of the day, whatever point in time that may be.
I agree with your definition. "Modern" was the name of a specific movement that started with the Bauhaus and grew to include other sub movements like the International Style. "Contemporary" I believe would encompass anything of the current day, but still has the possibility of including specific movements (ie: Deconstruction).

Democracy, Law and the Modernist Avant-Gardes $124 This is the first book to look at the ties between European modernism and democracy in a cross-cultural manner. Focusing on the continental avant-gardes of the nineteen-tens and twenties, Sascha Bru's original and provocative book fundamentally revises our understanding of modernism's cultural and political history.
