Gift for a new girlfriend for Xmas?

I just started dating this girl so we're not officially bf/gf yet, but we're really into each other.

What should I get her for Xmas that is affordable and thoughtful?

I was thinking about getting her a garnet necklace since that's her birthstone. It's only about $15 on Amazon.

I don't know if I should or not because our friends are getting each other small, cute gifts. Same examples are animal pillows, a Harry potter lego set, and posters. I'll add that we're college students. Is a garnet necklace too serious?

Any suggestions or advice would be awesome!

It's not generic enough for her to take it as a friendly gift, and not too involved for her to think you're going over the top.

It's very thoughtful, and it doesnt hurt YOUR pockets... which if you ask me, is the most important thing right now since you don't know EXACTLY which direction your relationship is headed, and you're a college student.
