A Woman's Quick Guide On What To Wear For A Job Interview
Someone interviewing you for a job will begin to judge you based on your appearance. More than having an impressive resume, what you're wearing will also speak for you. That is why it's important to consider what you'll be dressed in, to impress the interviewer.
A two-piece suit will make you look like a true professional. Go for plain fabric in black, brown, navy or dark gray. If you wish to wear something with prints, pick delicate weave or checkered patterns. A matching tailored top underneath the suit's coat will complete your look.
You can either wear a pair of pants or skirt. For pants, they should be well-tailored, and not too close-fitting as jean skinny. For skirts, pick something that's about below knee-length. Something longer than that is fine, as long as you can walk freely in them. No high slits, please. Most women prefer pants over skirts so they can sit comfortably before the interviewer. And not worry about exposing themselves accidentally.
You don't want to walk in the room with jingling metal sounds. That is why you should opt for simple jewelry items that are corporate looking. The same is true with other fashion accessories you're intending to sport. If you wish to carry a purse, go for something that matches your suit. Avoid clutching something too flashy or massive.
When it comes to footwear, it's always advisable to stick to basic closed-toe pumps. Pick a pair with 1- to 2-inch heels. Sure a pair of women's brown boots look fashionable, but not during a job interview. It's better to go with a simple pair than extreme ones. Put on neutral-colored stockings if you're wearing a skirt.
Also, make sure you can walk comfortably in your shoes. The day before the job interview, practice walking in the shoes you're planning to wear. Especially if you just bought them! You don't want to trip as you approach the interviewer. That's not really going to be a pretty first impression.
As with cosmetics, it's better to wear some than not wear any at all. But do keep it minimal, simple and elegant. Clip your nails. Steer clear of screaming nail polish colors. Better yet, wear none at all. Apply eau de parfum spray moderately. Pick something lightly scented and pleasing.
Knowing that you're wearing just the right attire for an interview will boost your confidence tremendously. What you show up in will have an impact on your evaluation. That's why it's important to appear before the interviewer dressed like you're the one he or she is looking for.
