What Are The Different Types Of Clip On Earrings?
You'll find there are a number of clip on earring designs. Not only do the designs vary, the way the earrings clip to the ears also varies. Since many women have now returned to using clip on earrings, various products are on the market to help you convert pierced earrings to clip-ons.
Types of Backs
Clip Back Earrings
The clip back earrings were the backings that many people used in the 1950's and early 1960's. This type of clip received a patent in the mid 1930's. It comes in a variety of styles such as designer filigree metal backs, omega clip backs and even hinges created specifically for comfort. Those who have problems from pinching and pressure use pillow type covers for the pad on the back to prevent this from occurring.
Backs that Screw Tight
This is probably one of the earliest types of backs for clip on earrings. In some cases, jewellery dating back as far as the turn of the century comes with this type of back. While they remained popular until the 1950s, eventually, that popularity went to the clip back earrings. This form of attachment can be found on hoop types of earrings.
Styles of Clip-Ons
Hoops: A hoop earring is normally not a complete hoop but gives the same illusion. The hoop clip-ons come in a variety of metals and even some geometric designs as well. Not all hoops are round. You'll find they are square, triangular or rectangular in appearance. Hoops can come in gold or silver and can also have stones in them or other natural materials as part of their design.
Studs: Studs are simple and elegant earrings. They may be a single gemstones or a small cluster of stones. Some stud designs are novelty earrings. Normally, because of the lightweight nature of a stud, they're comfortable to wear and are often quite elegant in their simplicity.
Drop Earrings: The stunning look of a drop earring can enhance your evening wear but are also appropriate for daytime fun wear, depending on the material from which they're made and the design. Many Native American earrings and Victorian lookalikes are drop earring designs.
Materials Used for Clip-On Earrings:
Beaded Earrings: Beaded earrings are so popular that creating a special notation is important. Many of the handmade earrings are beaded. They often contain unusual stones normally not found in commercially produced jewellery. If you have a penchant for the unique, often beaded jewellery is a good choice.
Precious and Semiprecious Stones: You can bedazzle others with your elegance by wearing a single diamond stud clip on earring. Sometimes less is really more in the fashion world. Although, cascading diamonds or rubies can also make a big impression. For those that can't afford the higher priced items, even faux diamonds can shine bright enough to make your accessories a hit.
Metal Earrings: Matching your metals is as important for accessorising as choosing the right colour of shoes. If you're wearing earthy tones, gold tends to go well as an accessory. Silver is more appropriate with colder colours such as blue. Be mindful of the tone of the gold, there are many shades, including pinks. Clip on earrings come in a range of metallic colours and enamelled metals as well.
