Department 56, What do they use for fake water?

We were wondering if anyone had any ideas about what we could use as fake water to put our ships onto? We have rubber stuff that look alright, but we love the color of the water they use in the layouts of the dept 56 scenes. it looks like a blue/aqua plastic, but we dont know where to find it

I also don't know what "Department 56" actually uses, but the most common way to make various kinds of fake water for scenes is either a clear resin (dyed and/or painted), or something called artists' acrylic medium (either gloss or matte version).

Generally, the kind of clear resin used for scenes since the water won't be that deep would be an epoxy resin, and maybe several layers of it, rather than a polyester resin.

Also click on BRANDS under Epoxy Resin if you want to know something specific to ask for (...Envirotex Lite is one of the most common brand names, but you could also use a "bartop resin" from the hardware store).

P.S. If you include a link to a photo of the exact size, shape, color, etc., of fake water you want to put in your scene, it would help a lot to get a more specific answer.
